S2E18 - Mustang Repairs, Beach Days, and Anime Tattoos

In S2E18, we talk through Robby redoing the Mustang shocks, helping with an oil change, and the never-ending debate between keeping things old-school or upgrading to coilovers. Ian recaps a packed beach day, a failed attempt at metal detecting, and a new tattoo idea involving Ultra Instinct Goku, Ultra Ego Vegeta, anime panels, and space-themed designs. Uh I replaced the fucking grommets that I needed to, so basically I did the shock struts a second time. The shocks a second time on the Mustang. Yeah. Um, I still have to torque down the uh the lug nuts on the fucking on the wheels don't need I can't forget that. Put them down, put it down on the ground and then torque it. Yeah.

You know, I don't have near as much product as I did, and I have not gone and just bought product just to sell in forever. Like, I'll buy I see a set on sale for 50% off. I'll break it down and take the figs out, but like that's just on a case-by-case basis or whatever, you know. Yeah, I haven't gone out looking to sell or looking to buy just to sell in forever. What was why is there so many rubber grommets? Um and then I pull the old fucking actuator out of the I keep calling them actuators, fuck. Like the I keep pulling the shock the shock out of the fucking trash, and I was all like, oh man, there's two rubber grommets that were stuck to this thing that I didn't see. And then I didn't put on the lock washers because there wasn't lock washers on it originally, but the new uh shocks came with lock washers, so I was all like, fuck, I may as well put those on then as well, too. So I put those on too. So hopefully it'll stay together and the suspension won't come fucking blowing apart. Yeah. Hit a bump and woo! Just too many explosions out of the front end.

Yeah, I want to do springs, uh, but I don't want to do the springs. Like, I just want to go to fucking coilovers, I think, because I took it for a little test drive and it was still very bouncy. You know, very, you know, like old school Cadillac feeling or something, you know, floaty. I didn't like it still. So I'm thinking it's gotta be the the front and rear springs just need to be replaced. You know, I gotta replace the leaf springs and then and either just replace the springs or just think about going over to coilovers.

I mean, the way that the coil overs install on this would be basically the exact same way that I just replaced moved removed and replaced the shocks. They would mount into the same positions, they just have the spring, you know how coilover works. Yeah, yeah. Um, I just would have to figure out what pound, because there's like 350, 400, 450 pound springs on the coilover kits that I found on CJ Pony Parts, and they have the same mount fittings as stock, so I could just mount them up to the stock caps and the stock mounts on the bottom.

Well, how's the rear suspension in that car now? Is it just a shock?

It's leaf leaf leaf suspension with leaf springs with uh my dad's got air air shocks in the back. So there's gas shocks on the front and air ride in the back with the leaf springs.

But I don't know if those are the stock leaf springs. I mean, if they are 60 years old, you know, there's they they're bound to have lost a little bit of springiness, you know. So I've been thinking about I think they're like 300 and something bucks for a pair on CJ Pony Parts. I got them in my wish list or whatever.

Yeah, and that's the for the leaf springs themselves, yeah. I guess I never really paid attention, like how you would replace a a leaf spring suspension to something like uh coil over. Like if you had like a truck. I don't know. I guess the car would be the same, right?

Yeah, I mean it the rear would be the same, it just I don't know to be 100%, to be honest. But I think the rear springs they would go the same way if you went coil over, but I I don't I I want to stick with Leaf in the back. I just want to get new ones. I don't know why I want to stick with Leaf. I kind of like the whole resto modern slash old technology mixed together, you know, since it's fuel injected and stuff, you know. So it's got I got that Amazon fire that wirelessly connects to the sensors on the motor and stuff. So I'm reading oil pressure and air temperature and RPMs and you know, a target idle RPM, you know, all that cool shit. O2 sensors and shit. You know, so all that I can see if it's going bad. Fuel pressure, you know, it reads fuel pressure and stuff. That's how we knew uh how we knew so quickly that the fuel pump had gone bad because that that Amazon fire connected up was showing zero. It was only showing four PSI. You know, it's supposed to be reading fifty to sixty.

I did replace the pump out of my brother's house too the fuel pump but yeah yeah and then the shocks but I don't know I just don't know if I want to go coil over if I just get springs and replace the springs you know but then I gotta disconnect the shock the shocks again you know just even replace the springs so it's like do I just bite the bull it's it's more money. It's it's eleven hundred bucks for the for the coil overs I don't know how much the front springs are I haven't even looked but I can't imagine they're much more expensive than the the leaf springs they in fact I'd imagine they're cheaper since it's less metal but I haven't I haven't looked on CJ pointy parts for that for that yet because the only thing I've looked at is coil overs I don't know I just think it'd be kind of cool it'd be all like yeah this old resto mod's got coil overs on it you know yeah yeah it'd be cool man have you uh looked at any areas for like car shows or anything that's the neighbors girls again uh no um I guess there's at Bou-Ray's did we ever go to Bou-Ray's when you were here the like Cajun restaurant I don't think so dang apparently they used to do car shows every Thursday um but you know in the summer months you know summer they shut down in like uh September October is the last the last show they did but apparently they do them on Sundays now because Thursdays I'd prefer to be bar backing if I can so I mean uh it wouldn't be a good day to go on Thursdays but um I've heard that they moved to Sundays and I would like to see I need to I need to look it up basically I need to look up book boo rays and see what days they're doing their their car meetup it's not like a car show it's just a meetup meetup yeah yeah yeah man those are always the best yeah I think it'd be be fun to do get back out there and maybe just mingle with some people and shit yeah man see what kind of shit they got going on see what kind of see what kind of cool fucking old school new school shit they got yeah exactly have you looked at anything nearby so that whenever whenever you get something you can go yeah yeah hang out yeah there's uh I mean if I wanted to go to a track there's a couple tracks here uh Stanopod's not too far um I see a lot of flyers for car shows and car meets and stuff like that on base off just off base uh yeah and around the area so I I'm pretty sure I'll be able to find something to go to. It's something I should look at too see if there's any car shows on the base duh. It's only 30 minutes. Because I took the truck to Lockheed once when we had a Lockheed Martin car show. I took the truck took the 71 but I don't have that no more now as my brother's now yeah yeah but I don't need two old classics anyways hell I'm thinking about getting rid of the slingshot once I get it fixed up and running. Get it get it back up and running and then sell it. I don't know I keep saying that to myself but then I'm gonna like the next time I drive it I'm gonna be like nah dude this thing's too much fucking fun it is fun to drive it is so fun to drive it's like a motorcycle and a car and one dude it's like a it feels exact it feels more like Mario Kart and that I I feel like when I'm driving the eco sport when I'm driving the eco sport it's like driving one of the big heavy cars you know like Bowser's or fucking Donkey Kongs or whatever it's all slow to get up to speed and it's not like it's fast it's just slow to get up to speed but it still feels like a little little go-kart or whatever whereas this because you're it's because you're low to the ground and then and it's like yeah it's it's super fun to drive it's it's really fun to drive that little thing but it's not as fun as the slingshot.
